TOP: Via Ferrata Franzi

The first Via Ferrata in the Schladming Tauern

Last summer, Reiteralm opened the first via ferrata in the Schladming Tauern mountains. Franzi, the secured climbing route, passes through the Gasselwand, a steep rock wall between the Reiteralm loop hiking trails.

From the Preunegg Jet top station, head to Mirror Lake; it will take half an hour to get to the Franzi climbing path entrance.

The via ferrata leads across beautiful climbing passages, first over inclined rock steps then through the vertical Gasselwand rock wall, ending up with deep lake views.

Franzi's exit is close to the Reiteralm loop trail.

The difficulty level of the Via ferrata Franzi is C/D, and it takes about one hour to climb. From the exit of the climbing path, take the one-hour walk via Gasselhöhe, back to the starting point at the Preunegg Jet top station.

The Via ferrata was set up in cooperation with the tourist office Pichl-Reiteralm.

The climb is named Franzi in memory of land owner Franz Trinker, Reiter. Franz Trinker was killed in a tragic work accident on May 4th, 2013.
