The first fixed rope route in the "Schladminger Tauern"

Up to the summit - the via ferrata "Franzi" in Schladming on the Reiteralm is the first fixed rope route in the "Schladminger Tauern". The Schladming Dachstein region is characterised by wonderful opportunities for hiking and climbing in a magnificent mountain panorama.

Varied via ferrata with wonderful mountain panorama

"Franzi" is a multi-variant fixed rope route and the sporty connection through the vertical wall Gasselwand between the existing hiking trails of the "Reiteralm Circular Hiking Trail".

Access to the via ferrata:

From the Preunegg Jet mountain station, a half-hour hike to Spiegelsee takes you to the start of the Franzi via ferrata. An exciting climbing tour with a fantastic mountain panorama.

It begins with inclined rock steps, over beautiful climbing passages up to the vertical wall Gasselwand. With wonderful "deep-lake views" of the Untersee, it then continues to the end. The exit is close to the existing Reiteralm circular hiking trail.

  • Difficulty: C/D
  • Duration: approx. 1 hour (via ferrata)
  • Exit: approx. 1-hour hike back to the starting point (mountain station Preunegg Jet)

History of the via ferrata

The via ferrata was built in perfect cooperation with the Pichl-Reiteralm Tourist Board and commemorates the landowner Franz Trinker, aka Reiter in loving memory. This via ferrata is referred to as "Franzi". Franz Trinker died on 4 May 2013 in a tragic accident at work.
