Route description: From the Reiteralm to the Spiegelsee lake

You start your tour at the Preunegg Jet mountain station and follow the signposted hiking trail no. 66 along the Reiteralm lake.

After a section of forest, you will reach the picturesque Spiegelsee lake after around 45 minutes.

There you can admire the beautiful reflection of the Dachstein south face.

The supposed mirror lake is actually called "Gasslsee", but the lake was christened "Spiegelsee" by photo-loving hikers due to its beautiful reflection.

A few minutes' walk takes you to the Obersee, a mountain lake that dates back to the Ice Age and is located between the peaks of the Schober and the Rippeteck.

You can choose the way back individually depending on time and desire, the following options are available:

  • Classic return via trail number 66
  • Return hike via Untersee (from halfway via trail number 66a, approx. + 30 minutes additional walking time)
  • Subsequent hike via the Reiteralm Höhenweg, via Rippetegg & Gasselhöhe (approx. + 2 hours additional walking time)

Do not swim in the Spiegelsee! The lake is part of the extremely fragile ecosystem, please protect and respect it so that hikers after you can still enjoy this breathtaking experience.
